NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Twenty-two games into Cam Ward career in Nashville, Tenn., the Tennessee Titans are still trying to define what Ward is as an NFL quarterback and what the offense can lean on when games get hard after the latest home-market loss.

After a 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans that dropped Tennessee to 0-5, coach Robert Saleh again said Ward is the starter for the season. On Monday, Saleh said that call is a coaching staff decision and that last week at Baltimore was one of Ward better games before what he called a step back against Houston for the entire offense, not just the quarterback.

Saleh also acknowledged the Titans still lack an offensive identity, something the club can count on in tough moments. Ward finished with 170 passing yards and one interception against Houston as Tennessee managed 187 total yards. He was sacked four times, all in the final 11 minutes.

Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, is 3-19 as a starter and has 896 passing yards this season at 5.8 yards per attempt, with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Veteran Mitchell Trubisky remains on the roster, and Saleh said offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is still studying which plays fit what Tennessee does best.

Saleh said progress has shown in stretches, including the Baltimore game, but that receivers, running backs, the offensive line and play calling all share responsibility for how the quarterback plays. The franchise is 6-33 since the start of the 2024 season and closing in on a fifth straight losing record.
