NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans cut ties with defensive tackle Jordan Elliott on Tuesday, two days after the team picked up its first win of the season.

In announcing the move, the Titans pointed to an incident involving Elliott at the team facility on Oct. 15. The club said the call came after it looked internally into what happened, and it added that it would have nothing more to say about the matter. No details of the incident have been made public.

Elliott missed practice last Friday for what the club described as personal reasons, and he was inactive for Sunday’s 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Before that, he had played in each of the first five games and was credited with 11 total tackles.

The 28-year-old joined Tennessee in free agency this past offseason on a two-year contract worth up to $8.5 million, following head coach Robert Saleh from the San Francisco 49ers. Cleveland drafted him 88th overall, in the third round, in 2020 after he played his college ball at Texas and Missouri, and he started regularly for both the Browns and the 49ers before coming to Nashville.

Elliott’s departure should open more playing time on the interior of the defensive line. Second-year tackle Nazir Stackhouse saw only 15 defensive snaps against the Colts but still made three tackles in the win.

Elliott was not the only notable defender missing on Sunday. Cornerback Alontae Taylor, who is in the first season of a $58 million contract, was also inactive for the game against Indianapolis.

The Titans now turn to the rest of their schedule looking to build on Sunday’s breakthrough and put a rough start behind them.
