NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No team in Major League Soccer has a better record than Nashville SC this season. Now the club is chasing history, and that chase continues at home in Nashville on Wednesday night when the Philadelphia Union visit for an 8:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Boys in Gold locked up the franchise’s first Supporters’ Shield by blanking CF Montreal 2-0 on the road Saturday. The trophy goes to the team with the league’s top regular-season record, and it guarantees Nashville the No. 1 overall seed plus home-field advantage all the way through the MLS Cup Playoffs.

With three regular-season matches left, Nashville needs five more points to pass the league’s single-season points high. A win against Philadelphia would cover three of them, leaving the club two points short with two matches left to play.

Nashville sits at 21-3-7 and leads the Western Conference, and it has been nearly flawless at home with a 14-0-1 mark. The club has scored 66 goals and allowed 23, a plus-43 goal difference. Sam Surridge leads the attack with 18 goals.

Philadelphia arrives fifth in the Eastern Conference at 13-11-7 and is 6-7-2 away from home. Milan Iloski has 19 goals for the Union, and the visitors lead the East in corner kicks drawn.

These teams played to a 0-0 draw in their only previous meeting this season. Nashville is expected to be without Owen Presthus, who is injured. The Union, who have drawn 184 corners this season, will be the latest team to test a Nashville side that has not lost at home all year.
