NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nashville SC could not find a way past Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The Supporters’ Shield winners and the Union played to a 0-0 draw at GEODIS Park, a result that added one point to Nashville’s pursuit of the league’s single-season points record.

Nashville came into the night with 70 points and a 14-0-1 home mark, needing four points from its last three matches to pass the record of 74 held by Inter Miami. The draw leaves that chase alive but with less room to spare.

Coach BJ Callaghan started with Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge on the bench. The two leading scorers came on in the 58th minute, Mukhtar for Alex Muyl and Surridge for Ahmed Qasem, but Philadelphia goalkeeper Andre Blake and his back line held on for his seventh shutout of the season.

The Union arrived short-handed, without suspended striker Bruno Damiani and with Cavan Sullivan and Milan Iloski hurt, and handed homegrown forward Malik Jakupovic his first MLS start. Neither side managed a goal in a tight, scrappy first half, and the teams went to the locker room level at 0-0.

Referee Pierre-Luc Lauziere showed three yellow cards. Nashville midfielder Edvard Tagseth was booked in the 22nd minute and left at halftime for Bryan Acosta, while Philadelphia’s Jovan Lukic and Danley Jean Jacques were also cautioned.

The visitors left town with more than a single road point. A New England win over Red Bull New York the same night locked Philadelphia into the MLS Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in club history.
