News Summary

Residents of Nashville are in shock after a series of shooting incidents have left the community anxious and heartbroken. Local leaders are called to address the increasing violence.

Nashville Rattled by Shooting Spree: Multiple Incidents Leave Community in Shock

Nashville residents are grappling with a wave of violence as recent shootings have left the community both anxious and heartbroken. Just hours apart, three separate shooting incidents transformed an ordinary day into a chaotic series of events that have many questioning safety in their neighborhoods.

Woman Shot While Asleep

Early Monday morning, around 5:30 AM, a horrific incident occurred when a 47-year-old woman, Nikita Gizzard, was shot in her own bedroom while sleeping soundly. A bullet, presumably fired from outside her home, pierced through the walls, shattering the peace of her household. Her daughter, Ariel Bradford, discovered the gruesome scene and quickly dialed for help as she found blood pooling in her mother’s room. Gizzard was rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center for emergency surgery, facing a battle for her life.

As police start their investigations, they are still piecing together how this all unfolded. Three individuals were reportedly involved in the altercation outside Gizzard’s home, raising the question of whether this was a targeted hit or just another tragic episode of random gun violence. Neighbors are expressing their concerns for their safety, noting that Gizzard’s home has endured gunfire before. It seems the ongoing gun violence is casting a dark shadow over this community.

Tragedy at the Gas Station

In a separate, equally distressing episode that same day, 24-year-old Cameron Dorsey from Memphis was found shot and killed outside a Mapco gas station located on Linbar Drive. Witnesses reported that Dorsey was attacked while inside his vehicle, as the suspect approached in another car and unleashed a barrage of gunfire before fleeing the scene.

Upon investigation, the police discovered a small plastic baggie thought to contain crack cocaine inside Dorsey’s vehicle, though it’s uncertain how, or if, this is connected to the shooting. Compounding the tragedy, Dorsey had been living in Nashville on a $45,000 bond related to a previous cocaine arrest just months before.

Another Life Lost in Antioch

In a third shocking incident, a 33-year-old woman, Johnia Ishan Wilson, was found dead in a home at Birchmill Point South in Antioch. Reports indicate that her death was the result of a dispute that escalated between her and 24-year-old Davis Owolo, Jr.. Eyewitnesses tried to calm the situation before violence erupted, but their efforts were in vain. Following the shooting, Owolo fled but later turned himself in to authorities, charged with criminal homicide.

Police Encounter Turns Deadly

Lastly, in another harrowing episode, Lyon police responded to a domestic incident on Natchez Trace Drive, resulting in a deadly exchange of gunfire. 40-year-old Robert Tate was discovered dead inside his home. This incident also left one police officer injured, requiring hospital treatment. Thankfully, the officer has since been released, but investigations into what happened continue.

Community on Edge

The rise in gun violence across the city is leaving many residents questioning their safety. Nashville’s community leaders are urged to reflect on these increasing incidents and work diligently to find solutions to curb this trend. It’s a call to action for everyone to foster a supportive environment, ensuring that the neighborhoods we love can become safe havens once again.

As more details unfold regarding these incidents, the community waits in anticipation, hoping for justice and safety as life in Nashville continues to navigate these challenging waters.
