Nashville: Woman Arrested After Hours-Long Low-Speed Chase Through Davidson County

A woman is in police custody following a low-speed pursuit through Davidson County that began around 3 a.m. on July 1, 2025. The chase involved multiple police agencies and drew significant attention due to the unusual duration and pace.

The incident started when Metro Nashville Police officers discovered 28-year-old Katlyn Gayle Wray asleep inside a stolen black Nissan Altima parked in the 800 block of Burnett Road, Old Hickory. Officers checked the vehicle’s tag and confirmed that it had been reported stolen before approaching Wray’s car.

Instead of complying with police commands, Wray reversed her vehicle, colliding with two patrol cars and nearly hitting an officer. After this initial encounter, she fled the scene, prompting a pursuit that led officers through Madison and East Nashville. During the early part of the chase, her speed reached up to 50 mph.

As the pursuit continued, police deployed spike strips, which punctured all four tires of her vehicle. This caused the chase to slow dramatically, with Wray’s speed dropping to as low as 5 mph at times, but reaching a maximum of 15 mph. The damaged vehicle continued along Murfreesboro Pike and into Antioch, maintaining its low-speed trajectory.

By approximately 7 a.m., the chase had moved onto Interstate 24, heading back toward downtown Nashville. Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) officers intervened around 7:30 a.m. near mile marker 53.9 of I-24, using a PIT maneuver to bring Wray’s vehicle to a stop. The maneuver involves forcing a vehicle to spin out of control, effectively halting its movement.

Following her arrest, Wray stated that she did not stop for police because she was already “on paper for ten years anyway.” Wray faces a range of charges as a result of the incident: two counts of vehicle theft, five counts of evading arrest with risk of injury, three counts of aggravated reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of vandalism, and driving on a suspended license.

Wray has a troubling legal history, previously being on probation for a November 2023 forgery conviction. She also has an extensive criminal background that includes convictions for aggravated burglary and theft. At the time of the chase, she had an outstanding warrant for another vehicle theft, involving a Ford Fiesta that she had failed to return to a friend.

Currently, Wray is being held on a $107,000 bond, as authorities continue to process her case. The lengthy pursuit not only raised concerns over public safety but also highlighted ongoing issues related to vehicle theft and repeat offenders in the Nashville area.

This incident sheds light on the challenges faced by local law enforcement in managing vehicle thefts and the ongoing impact of repeat offenses on community safety. As investigations continue, further details regarding Wray’s history and motives may emerge.
