Iroquois Steeplechase

The Iroquois Steeplechase has been a Nashville staple for over 75 years. This horse race attracts more than 25,000 people each year, providing all of the grandeur and status of a Triple Crown event, but on a smaller, more manageable scale. Steeplechase racers from all over the world come to Nashville to compete, with the revenues going to local organizations as part of a fundraiser. The action is fast-paced and immensely entertaining, making this a must-see for anybody visiting Music City in May.

Tennessee Renaissance Festival

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival takes place every weekend in May in Nashville, providing lots of opportunities for locals and visitors alike to embrace their medieval side. The festival takes place just outside of town, in a rustic, rural environment replete with its own castle. Inside the “ren fair,” guests will find dozens of merchants selling their items, plenty of delicious food and beverages to enjoy, and a variety of entertainment ranging from falconry performances to knights jousting in the arena. Of course, there’s also music, actors, and court jesters, making this not only a getaway from the city, but also a getaway from the twenty-first century.

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

A small town called Manchester, just down the road from Nashville, hosts one of the country’s largest and most thrilling music festivals. Since its inception in 2002, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has attracted some of the greatest names in the music industry. That means it attracts large crowds on a yearly basis, with many people driving in from out of town to see their favorite band. Every June, over 80,000 people flock to the 650-acre outdoor stadium to watch a seemingly endless succession of big-name performers and bands. This is an event you will not want to miss if you enjoy music.

CMA Music Fest

The Country Music Awards Music Festival, often known as CMA Fest, is also quite popular and takes place directly in the middle of downtown. The festival offers a chance for some of country music’s biggest names, as well as some talented up-and-comers, to put on a show in front of a packed house. The four-day tournament is primarily conducted at Nissan Stadium, the Tennessee Titans’ home stadium. However, smaller stages are frequently found nearby, and many local venues host free events throughout the weekend.
