Crowd seeking shelter at CMA Fest during severe weather conditions

News Summary

CMA Fest in Nashville is facing interruptions due to severe weather conditions affecting Middle Tennessee, leading to the suspension of outdoor events. Attendees are being directed to seek shelter while organizers work to ensure safety during thunderstorms and a Tornado Watch. Some performances, like Jason Aldean’s surprise collaboration with Travis Tritt, continue to thrill fans amidst the storm. CMA Fest remains a priority for both organizers and performers as they adapt to the challenging weather, striving to keep attendees informed and safe.

Nashville – Severe weather conditions have disrupted activities at the highly anticipated CMA Fest, which is taking place this weekend in Nashville. As a result of storms affecting Middle Tennessee, organizers have suspended all outdoor daytime stages and nighttime performances at the Hard Rock Stage. Fans are being directed to seek shelter or head to Fan Fair X inside the Music City Center for their safety.

On Thursday night, country music star Jason Aldean took to the stage at Nissan Stadium. During his performance, he surprised the audience by inviting country music legend Travis Tritt to join him on stage. Tritt, who is 62 years old, performed “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive,” thrilling concert-goers who described the collaboration as “iconic.” Many attendees compared Tritt’s current energy and performance style to his prime in the 1990s, underlining his lasting presence in the country music scene. Following this event, Tritt is scheduled to perform in Georgia as part of his ongoing tour.

The severe weather is compounded by a Tornado Watch that remains in effect until 8 p.m. for parts of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. While Davidson County, where Nashville is located, is currently experiencing heavy rain, it is not under a Tornado Watch. The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions closely, including tracking lightning within an 8-mile radius, stopping events for 30 minutes after any lightning strikes are detected.

To manage the situation, CMA Fest organizers informed attendees of delays at Nissan Stadium and Ascend Amphitheater, citing that gates at Nissan Stadium faced a delay of at least 90 minutes. At approximately 6:11 p.m., they announced that gates at Nissan Stadium would now open at 8 p.m. with performances set to begin at 9 p.m. Simultaneously, Ascend Amphitheater gates are expected to open at 7:45 p.m., with shows scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m.

In light of the weather disruptions, attendees are advised to download the official CMA Fest app for real-time updates regarding performance schedules and safety alerts. CMA Festival organizers have emphasized that the safety of attendees is their utmost priority.

Amidst the festivities, the Nashville event is also fortified by extensive security measures implemented by the Metro Police Department. Hundreds of officers have been deployed to ensure crowd safety, including both uniformed and plainclothes officers. Additionally, the installation of barriers and fencing has been conducted to better manage crowd flow throughout the event. As more than 90,000 attendees are anticipated, extra vigilance is encouraged, and individuals are urged to report any suspicious activity observed during the festival.

This year’s CMA Fest also features prominent performances from acts such as Blake Shelton, Megan Moroney, and Rascal Flatts on the main stage at Nissan Stadium. Despite the weather-related disruptions, fans remain enthusiastic about the festival’s offerings and look forward to the remaining events scheduled for the weekend.
