Nashville, TN – David Price, a former standout pitcher for Vanderbilt University, has been named to the 2025 class of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. The announcement was made by the College Baseball Foundation on June 23, 2023.
Price’s collegiate career at Vanderbilt spanned from 2005 to 2007, during which he earned a reputation as one of the top pitchers in college baseball. His most notable season came in 2007 when he led the Commodores to victories in both the Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season and tournament championships. That year, Price posted an impressive 11-1 record with a 2.63 ERA and racked up 194 strikeouts over 133.1 innings, setting Vanderbilt season records for both categories.
In addition to his performance on the mound, Price garnered multiple honors in 2007, which include being named the consensus National Player of the Year, a consensus first-team All-American, and the SEC Pitcher of the Year. His collection of awards also includes prestigious national accolades, such as the Dick Howser Trophy, Brooks Wallace Award, Golden Spikes Award, and the Roger Clemens Award. Over his time at Vanderbilt, he accumulated a total of 441 strikeouts, the highest in the school’s history, and his 155 strikeouts in 2006 remain fifth on the all-time list.
Price’s success did not go unnoticed, as he was recognized as an All-American in both his sophomore and junior years and earned Freshman All-America honors after his debut season in 2005 when he recorded a 2.86 ERA and 92 strikeouts.
Following his collegiate career, David Price was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He went on to have a highly successful Major League Baseball career spanning 14 seasons. Price won the Cy Young Award in 2012 and was a finalist for the award on two additional occasions. Furthermore, he played a crucial role in helping the Boston Red Sox capture the World Series in 2018.
Price spent the final two seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and officially announced his retirement after the 2022 season. His induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame marks a significant milestone as he will be the first player from Vanderbilt to receive this honor.
The induction ceremony for the 2025 class is slated to take place on February 12, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas, celebrating the outstanding achievements of Price and his contributions to college baseball.
