Nashville – The Nashville Sounds secured a 7-4 victory over the Iowa Cubs on Saturday evening, taking the lead in their series. This win positions them for an opportunity to claim their eighth series victory of the season during the finale set for Sunday afternoon at First Horizon Park.

Left-handed pitcher Josh Maciejewski made a significant impact in his first start of the season after previously featuring in 15 relief appearances for both Nashville and Double-A Biloxi. Maciejewski delivered an exceptional performance, pitching a season-high four innings without allowing a hit or a walk, and striking out four of the 12 batters he faced.

The Sounds jumped to an early lead in the third inning as Anthony Seigler drove in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly. They followed this with more offensive momentum in the fourth inning, where back-to-back doubles from Ernesto Martinez Jr. and Drew Avans further extended their advantage, making it 2-0.

Nashville continued to build on this lead in the fifth inning. Jared Oliva hit a triple that allowed Seigler to score, followed by an RBI double from Jorge Alfaro, moving Nashville ahead by four runs at 4-0.

As the game progressed, Elvin Rodriguez took over pitching duties from Maciejewski. Rodriguez faced four batters in the fifth, allowing Iowa their first hit of the night—a one-out double—yet recovered with two strikeouts. He returned to the mound for the sixth inning, quickly achieving two outs but struggled thereafter, giving up a hit by pitch and two walks, which filled the bases.

In a crucial moment, the first batter facing Elvis Peguero hit a grand slam, tying the game at 4-4, while marking just the second hit for Iowa that night. The inning continued to trouble Nashville as three consecutive walks were issued before Bryan Hudson struck out Darius Hill, ending the inning without further runs against.

Hudson returned for the seventh inning and secured another strikeout, contributing to the Nashville pitching effort. In the eighth inning, Joel Payamps struck out the side and maintained the tie, limiting Iowa to only two hits over eight innings.

As Nashville returned to bat, a third error from Iowa allowed Drew Avans to reach base for the third time in the game. Avans swiped second base and soon scored as Anthony Seigler delivered a go-ahead RBI hit. Bobby Dalbec extended the Nashville lead to three runs with a double, marking the fourth double of the evening for the Sounds.

The closing pitcher, Blake Holub, made his season debut as the sixth pitcher used by Nashville, striking out the side in the ninth inning to secure his first save of the season.

The series wraps up on Sunday with a highly anticipated rematch featuring Nashville’s right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers (1-3, 3.48 ERA) taking on Iowa’s Kenta Maeda (1-2, 10.23 ERA). The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.

This victory reflects Nashville’s strong performance and highlights the solid contributions from both the pitching staff and the batting lineup, setting the stage for a potentially decisive finish to the series.
