Major disruptions occurred on highways in the Nashville area over the weekend, resulting from a series of multi-vehicle crashes and a shooting incident. On Saturday evening, July 12, 2025, a significant accident near Nashville International Airport left multiple lanes blocked for several hours.

The first incident was reported at approximately 6:42 p.m. on Briley Parkway, specifically at Exit 4 (Murfreesboro Road exit), when a vehicle overturned, causing a multi-vehicle crash. First responders acted quickly, but by 7:42 p.m., all southbound lanes, one northbound lane, and the exit ramp were fully blocked, creating congestion for motorists in the area. As of 10:25 p.m., the blockage continued, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) estimated that the scene would be cleared by 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 13. Motorists were directed to use diversion routes, with northbound traffic advised to exit at Exit 4 and southbound traffic being diverted at Vultee Boulevard. No information on injuries related to this incident has been released.

Earlier on the same day, around 10:55 a.m., another multi-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a semi-truck temporarily closed Interstate 24 East in Rutherford County. A LifeFlight helicopter was summoned to the scene, and by 11:49 a.m., two of the four lanes had reopened, allowing some traffic to resume.

A shooting incident later that morning further complicated traffic conditions. At about 7:51 a.m., a Rutherford County man was shot while driving near mile marker 64 on I-24. The investigation revealed that this shooting was linked to a subsequent crash. The westbound lanes were fully shut down from Waldron Road (Exit 64) to Old Hickory Boulevard (Exit 62) for over five and a half hours, affecting large volumes of morning commuters. One victim was transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to gunshot wounds; authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity. Law enforcement is still probing the origin of the gunfire.

Multiple agencies responded to the incidents, including the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, La Vergne Police Department, and Tennessee Highway Patrol. Motorists were advised to avoid westbound lanes and divert traffic at Waldron Road to help mitigate congestion during the ongoing investigations.

As the weekend progressed, another distressing event unfolded in Antioch linked to alleged street racing. A teenager lost control of an Infiniti M37, resulting in a crash that left one person dead and two others injured. This incident occurred later on Saturday evening, leading to toxicology tests being initiated. The 18-year-old driver of the racing vehicle was declared dead at the scene; the two 17-year-old passengers were rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, with one reported to be in critical condition. The underage driver of the other vehicle involved in the street race was arrested after a separate crash.

The investigations concerning these incidents remain active, and authorities are calling on any witnesses to come forward in order to assist with inquiries. Officials emphasize the importance of public safety and are working diligently to gather all necessary information regarding the circumstances that led to these tragic events in the Nashville area.
