Nashville Welcomes New Influencers to Vanderbilt’s NIL Collective

Nashville, Tennessee – Anchor Impact, the official collective supporting Vanderbilt University student athletes, announced on Thursday that six notable Vanderbilt alumni have joined its expanded governing board. The new members bring a wealth of experience and expertise, promising to strengthen the collective’s mission to enhance student athletes’ name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

Who Are the New Board Members?

The latest additions to the Anchor Impact Governing Board include:

  • Michelle Kennedy, President and COO of the Nashville Predators
  • Jim Littlejohn, founder and former president of Littlejohn Engineering
  • Jordan Matthews, receiver for the Carolina Panthers
  • Will Perdue, former NBA champion
  • Oren Burks, linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles
  • Brandt Snedeker, professional golfer

What is Anchor Impact?

Anchor Impact operates as an independent third-party organization dedicated to empowering Vanderbilt student athletes. It provides resources and opportunities for athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness. The collective serves to enhance Vanderbilt’s tradition of athletic and personal development in a new era of collegiate sports.

When Did the Changes Happen?

The announcement about the new board members came on Thursday, with Paul Grindstaff, the executive director of Anchor Impact, expressing his enthusiasm about these new additions. He acknowledged that their diverse backgrounds and experiences would significantly contribute to the collective’s goals.

Why is This Important?

The expansion of the governing board signifies a strategic effort to modernize and enhance the NIL opportunities for Vanderbilt athletes. With the recent changes in NIL regulations across the NCAA, there has been a growing emphasis on providing student athletes with additional resources. This initiative aims to help them leverage their personal brands while maintaining academic excellence.

Previous Initiatives and Partnerships

Following Vanderbilt’s remarkable football upset against the then-No. 1 ranked Alabama earlier this season, Anchor Impact seized the moment. They offered supporters the chance to pledge donations in amounts symbolizing the game’s final score of 40-35 and the sellout attendance of 28,394. This innovative approach targeted fans and sought to rally support for student athletes at Vanderbilt.

In November, a newly enhanced partnership between Vanderbilt athletics and Anchor Impact was announced. This collaboration aims to reward NIL donors with various incentives, including window decals, apparel, player video “shout-outs,” and exclusive VIP experiences, depending on the level of support.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

The six new members of the Anchor Impact Governing Board join original members Bob Calton, Bill Hawkins, and Chris Whitson in shaping the future of Vanderbilt athletics. Each brings unique insights that will help guide the collective as it navigates the evolving NIL landscape.

As the collegiate sports environment continues to change, the involvement of such prominent figures highlights the commitment to not only athletic success but also to the personal development of student athletes. The collective’s mission is poised to foster improved opportunities, opening doors and changing lives for Commodores on and off the field.
