Tennessee Expands Job Opportunities with Summertown Metals’ New Facility

Morristown, Tennessee – Summertown Metals has announced plans to expand its operations to Morristown, Hamblen County, marking its first venture outside of Southern Middle Tennessee. This expansion will include an investment of $22.6 million and is expected to create approximately 170 new jobs in the region.

Upon completion, the new facility is anticipated to employ nearly 600 individuals across its facilities located in Summertown, Hohenwald, and Morristown. The expansion aims to enhance the company’s operational capabilities by providing more space for metal roll forming, wood and steel truss manufacturing, and warehousing and distribution.

Details of the Expansion

The announcement of this substantial development was made on June 4, 2025, with key representatives present, including Governor Bill Lee and Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD). The expansion reflects the company’s commitment to responding to customer demand while enhancing industrial growth in the area.

Summertown Metals was founded in 2006 and has since evolved from a single supplier of building materials to a reputable distributor of custom building materials. The company specializes in producing high-quality metal building solutions suited for various structures, including pole barns and barndominiums, ensuring exceptional craftsmanship and customer service.

Impacts on the Community

Governor Lee praised the company’s decision to expand in East Tennessee, emphasizing the importance of the new jobs created for the local economy. The investment from Summertown Metals is considered a significant development in the region, with local leaders highlighting the strategic location of Morristown for growth.

Hamblen County Mayor Chris Cutshaw welcomed Summertown Metals into the community, while Morristown Mayor Gary Chesney expressed pride in the partnership with the company, recognizing its potential contribution to industrial expansion. Furthermore, leaders from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) acknowledged the alignment of the new job opportunities with their mission and welcomed Summertown Metals’ commitment to the area.

Tennessee’s Economic Landscape

Since 2020, TNECD has supported 61 economic development projects in East Tennessee, which have resulted in nearly 11,000 job commitments and approximately $3.4 billion in capital investment. This continued economic growth can be attributed to the state’s business-friendly policies that attract high-quality businesses like Summertown Metals to Tennessee.

With the creation of 170 new jobs, the expansion not only strengthens Summertown Metals’ presence in the region but also signifies a robust opportunity for employment and economic vitality for the Morristown area.

Looking Ahead

CEO Matt Stoll expressed enthusiasm regarding the new facility, noting the opportunity it presents to better serve clients while providing new career paths for residents. The company’s mission remains focused on benefiting its customers, team members, and local communities by delivering exceptional and affordable building products and services.
