NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Henrietta Red, the seafood restaurant in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood known for its oysters, will shut down in April 2027 after about 10 years in business, chef and co-owner Julia Sullivan announced Tuesday.
The restaurant sits at 1200 4th Ave. N., in a mixed-use building called The Square at Fourth and Madison. Sullivan said word that the property will be sold led to the decision. Stevens Group, the leasing and property management company connected to the site, said the building was listed for sale earlier this year. No asking price has been made public.
Sullivan said she wanted to give regular guests and her staff a long runway to say goodbye. She and her team plan to keep cooking every day except Mondays until the lease runs out.
A Nashville native, Sullivan trained in some of the country’s best-known kitchens, including Per Se in New York, before coming home. She opened Henrietta Red in early 2017 with Strategic Hospitality, the local group run by brothers Benjamin and Max Goldberg whose other spots include Bastion, The Catbird Seat and The Patterson House. Planning, design and construction took about two years.
The restaurant drew national attention soon after it opened, and Sullivan became a James Beard Foundation Award finalist in 2020. She has served on the board of Oyster South, a group supporting oyster farmers, and since 2024 has also run Judith, a tavern in Sewanee, which has earned a Michelin recommendation.
In a statement, Benjamin Goldberg praised Sullivan and her team and invited guests to visit often before the doors close.
