MONTREAL, Quebec — Nashville SC is the best team in Major League Soccer’s regular season for the first time, sealing the Supporters’ Shield on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 road win over CF Montreal at Stade Saputo.
The match stayed scoreless until early in the second half. Reed Baker-Whiting sent a ball in from the left, Sam Surridge saw his header turned away by the Montreal keeper and then knocked in the rebound in the 52nd minute. Hany Mukhtar added the second goal in the 76th minute, jumping on a loose pass deep in Montreal territory and finishing alone against the goalkeeper. It was the seventh goal in six matches for Mukhtar, while Surridge now has a team-leading 18th regular season goal.
Brian Schwake made six saves for his 14th clean sheet of the regular season, the most shutouts any Nashville keeper has posted in one season.
The trophy goes to the club with the most points, and it brings real stakes for Nashville fans. Every Nashville playoff match in the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs will be played in front of the home crowd at GEODIS Park, and the club would host the final if it gets there. Nashville sits at 21 wins, three losses and seven draws with 70 points, the first MLS team ever to reach 70 points through 31 matches. Clinching with three regular season games left also tied the league mark for the fastest Shield clinch.
The win also sends Nashville to the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. It follows the 2025 U.S. Open Cup, the first title in club history, which makes this the second trophy in two seasons.
Up next is a Wednesday, Oct. 28 home date against the Philadelphia Union, set for 7:30 p.m. Central, in its next-to-last regular season home match.
