Cookeville, TN – Janice Faye Clark Goodpasture, a beloved local educator and community leader, passed away on December 27, 2018, at the Lifecare Center of Sparta, TN. She was 75 years old.

Born on April 26, 1944, in Putnam County, Janice was the daughter of the late Cecil Radford Clark and Andrea B. Roberts Clark. She began her education at Rickman High School before furthering her studies at Lipscomb University. Janice earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics from Tennessee Tech University, followed by a Master of Arts in Consumer and Family Sciences from Western Kentucky University. She also pursued 18 hours in a doctoral program at the University of Tennessee in Human Ecology.

Janice’s teaching career spanned 28 years, during which she held positions at Flint High School in Flint, MI, and Lebanon High School in Lebanon, TN. In addition to these roles, she taught Consumer and Family Sciences at Lipscomb University and served as both Assistant Professor and Adjunct Professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Murray State University for 14 years. Known for her dedication to education and community service, Janice was actively involved in the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, where she served as President and was the Tennessee Delegate to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Washington, DC, in 2003.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Janice was a devoted member of her church, where she taught Sunday School and ladies’ classes. She married William Lee (Bill) Goodpasture on August 22, 1965, at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Cookeville. Janice is survived by her husband Bill, daughters Jana Karise Cheatham of Hendersonville, TN, and Melanee Lee (Bobby) Bandy of Nashville, TN, along with five grandchildren: Taylor Britt Cheatham, Robert Walker Cheatham, Kari Kennedy Cheatham, Elijah Luke Bandy, and Elizabeth Grace (Liza) Bandy.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and her son-in-law Terry Cheatham. Throughout her life, she was guided by her favorite scripture from Psalm 78, which emphasizes the importance of teaching and passing on knowledge to future generations.

Funeral services for Janice Faye Clark Goodpasture will be held on January 2, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Collegeside Church of Christ, with Dr. Alan Henderson and Dr. Chet Gentry officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on January 1, 2019, at Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and from noon until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
