COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina football is spending its bye week in Columbia with a clearer six-win math problem after last weekend’s road statement against ranked Florida. The Gamecocks are 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the SEC with six games left.
Analytics models now give them the edge in three remaining matchups: Texas A&M at home, Arkansas on the road and Clemson on the road. They remain underdogs against Tennessee, Oklahoma and Georgia on those boards.
Six wins would lock a bowl trip for the first time in two years and mark the fourth postseason under coach Shane Beamer. Early projections already float a Gasparilla Bowl landing in Tampa if the Gamecocks climb to that mark.
LaNorris Sellers threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns and added a rushing score in the Florida game while the defense held a high-powered Gators attack under 20 points, the cleanest complete outing of the year so far.
The first half of the season mixed blowouts of Kent State and Towson with tight SEC heartbreaks, including an overtime finish after South Carolina had led. The staff now has a bye to prepare for the stretch that decides whether Columbia hosts a bowl-bound December.
