NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Nashville Predators turned the power play into a weapon Sunday night, scoring four times with the extra skater on the way to a 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Ryan O’Reilly, who once played for Colorado, led the way with two goals and two assists, both of his goals coming on the man advantage. Steven Stamkos also scored twice and set up another, Filip Forsberg chipped in a goal plus two helpers, and captain Roman Josi finished with three assists. Nashville went 4-for-7 on the power play, its first four-goal power-play night since January 2012.
Forsberg opened the scoring 4:01 into the game, and Stamkos added a second goal at 10:48 that stood only after a video review showed the puck had crossed the line. O’Reilly then made it 3-0 midway through the second period with a backhander.
Two other former Avalanche players joined in. Ross Colton and Jack Drury, who each came to Nashville by trade this past summer, teamed up for Drury’s goal at 16:36 of the second, and O’Reilly struck again on the power play less than a minute later to make it 5-0.
Colorado got goals from Artturi Lehkonen late in the second and Devon Toews early in the third. Stamkos closed the scoring at 10:24 of the third on a 5-on-3 after the Avalanche goalie was caught out of position. Justus Annunen stopped 19 shots for Nashville, which was playing the second night of a back-to-back after a game in Pittsburgh.
The win moved the Predators to 4-3-4. They have earned at least a point in four of their last five outings.
