What Nashville Voters Can Do About Problems at the Polls

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — With early voting under way and Election Day close, Nashville voters who run into a snag at the polls have several places to turn. The first is the election official in charge at the voting site, who can often sort out questions about registration, district lines, ID or the machines on the spot.

Common trouble includes a registration record that poll workers cannot find or a voter who has been sent to the wrong precinct. If anyone faces an immediate safety threat, the right call is to law enforcement.

If the issue is not settled at the site, voters can phone the state’s Division of Elections, 877-850-4959. Voters reporting a concern should lay out plainly what happened, what instructions poll workers gave, and who they spoke with, by name or job title when possible.

Voters without an acceptable photo ID may be offered a provisional ballot and told to take extra steps after voting. Because those steps can carry deadlines, it helps to get the instructions in writing before leaving and to contact the county election commission quickly.

In Nashville, that office is the Davidson County Election Commission at 1281 Murfreesboro Pike, Third Floor. On Election Day, voters must cast ballots at their assigned polling place, which the county’s online finder will show, and voting runs from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Voters unsure whether their registration is current can check it ahead of time with the state voter lookup, and anyone who has moved can update an address online at GoVoteTN.gov before the next election.
