PHILADELPHIA — The Dallas Cowboys finally found the running game they had been missing all season, and it carried them to a 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Javonte Williams did the heavy lifting. He carried 25 times for 155 yards and a score, a personal best, and Dallas finished with 204 yards on the ground. That was a sharp turn for a club that entered the night ranked dead last in the league in rushing attempts per game. By the team’s own count, no Cowboys back had run for more since Ezekiel Elliott posted 159 yards against Tampa Bay in December 2016.

Dak Prescott bounced back from two shaky outings in which he had thrown four interceptions. He did not turn the ball over, threw for 212 yards and tossed three touchdown passes. CeeDee Lamb caught five balls for 74 yards and two of those scores, and George Pickens added four catches for 57 yards and the third. Prescott also moved past Tony Romo for the most games with multiple touchdown passes in club history, now at 80.

Dallas put points on the board on seven of its nine drives and piled up 416 yards of offense, its best of the season.

Philadelphia was shorthanded from the start. Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the year with blood clots, and the Eagles played without wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks. Saquon Barkley, back from a hamstring problem, scored early but played only nine snaps before he left in the third quarter with what the team called a back injury.

Backup quarterback Tanner McKee threw for 211 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Dallas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, returning from a hamstring injury, made that interception and shared the team lead with six tackles.
