NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Drivers parking at Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tenn., will need a new route starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the entrance to Terminal Garage 1 shuts down for construction. The spaces inside stay open; only the way in changes.
From that day on, every car going into or coming out of the two terminal decks will be routed through Terminal Garage 2. Anyone headed for a spot in Garage 1 should drive past the old entrance, keep going to the Garage 2 gate and pull a ticket there as normal.
Once inside, drivers can stay in Garage 2 or follow signs to the crossover points on Levels 2 through 6, which lead into Garage 1. Every parking level in both decks will stay reachable, airport officials said.
Leaving works the same way in reverse. Cars parked in Garage 1 follow signs into Garage 2 and then head down the helix to Level P2, where the exit lanes are. Garage 2 will keep six exit lanes open to handle the combined outbound traffic.
Paying does not change. A ticket pulled for Garage 1 is accepted at the Garage 2 exits, and new signs will mark the temporary traffic pattern. Travelers are being told to build in extra time while they get used to it.
Capacity holds steady through this phase: Garage 1 keeps 4,366 covered spaces and Garage 2 keeps 2,160. Valet drivers will keep coming and going through the existing rental car facility area.
This is the latest in a string of changes on the airport roads. The Garage 1 exit closed Sept. 23, and rental car and valet customers were moved over to Fly Nashville Way on Sept. 30.
The detours make room for work under the New Horizon expansion program. Plans call for a six-story rental car facility covering 3.5 million square feet with room for 4,700 rental vehicles, plus a new parking garage holding 3,000 spaces.
