SELMER, Tenn. — Electrification manufacturer ABB is committing another large capital outlay in McNairy County, a $50 million second expansion that state economic developers say will bring 227 jobs to Selmer.
Governor Bill Lee and Stuart C. McWhorter, the state top economic development official, joined company executives for the announcement. ABB will move Industrial Connections and Solutions operations off Fourth Street into a fresh 120,000-square-foot hall beside the 325,000-square-foot factory it recently finished at the Selmer/McNairy Industrial Park. That new hall is slated to build and ship busway systems, bus plugs and related electrical products.
Company plans call for shifting roughly nine-tenths of the equipment and workforce into the larger finished plant during the first half of 2027, then finishing the move into the new building later the same year. When both waves are complete, ABB expects its Tennessee headcount to top 1,500 people at five sites: Selmer plus Portland, Athens, Memphis and Mount Juliet.
The project is ABB second major Selmer bet since 2025. An earlier industrial-park build was described as about a $100 million investment meant to add more than 50 jobs. The park itself has already received state site-preparation grants for engineering, grading and access roads. State officials cast the latest decision as a sign that firms already rooted in Tennessee keep choosing to grow here rather than leave.
TVA and Pickwick Electric Cooperative also praised the plan, tying it to broader West Tennessee industrial recruitment. Local development leaders have spent years readying the 39-acre park so manufacturers can land quickly when they decide to expand.
